Here is a brief biography about me. I've had an interest in drawing and painting since the age of five. My Uncle Peter Hopkinson whose works can be viewed on the Links page under J.P. Fine Arts took me out many times painting the landscapes around Derbyshire. My first enrolment into an Art Society started when I was only twelve years old. Now this was twenty seven years ago, OK start doing the maths! twenty one years ago (1987) my family moved down to Devon to make a fresh start in life and being only 18 years old and unemployed I decided to tag along. During this time I have been doing commissioned paintings of dogs, cats, birds, children, well just about anything really! Both my son and my painting are my life. I work full time as a Maintenance Man for my local Council.
I paint as a hobby artist enjoying the relaxation this lovely hobby brings. I do paint commissions for people but only charge small fees to cover the material costs. I have a little boy who was nine years old on 24th February 2008, I live with my partner Jo who very kindly puts up with my arty grumbles and supports me in every way! I find painting an excellent way of relaxing after a busy day at work. If I have a favourite thing to paint then I would choose animals as my first choice.
To the right is a picture taken by my local newspaper during August 2004. This was at an exhibition where I was showing my paintings. Anything for a free advert!
Have a go! Don't be too upset from your first attempts as every time you try something you will learn that little bit more. May I recommend that you have a go at drawing first as a good drawing will never make a bad painting! If you need any advice then please e-mail me and I will be more than happy to help you anyway I can. I am always willing to help out fellow artists.
Also you can visit a web site just for artists called www.wetcanvas.com. This site is FREE and has bags of advice. I have made plenty of good friends on this site and this has been a great help to my art work, it's amazing what you learn.
Another hobby that I've been working on is web site designing. I've re-designed this web site to meet all the accessibility standards required and also as a means of practice. This web site was designed using a simple text editor and no GUI (Graphic User Interface) software. So yes, everything you see here has been hand coded! I've heard of writers cramp but not typers cramp! So there you go, that's enough about me, enjoy my web site and please sign my Guest Book so I know you've been here. All the best Paul
